Alternative Sports to Help You Get Fit

Is working out in a gym everyday growing stale? With summer quickly approaching here are five ways to take your exercise routine out of the box and into the great outdoors.
BIKING
Bicycling is a great way to see the outdoors, take in the fresh air, or simply get around town. It’s also an efficient way to burn excess calories, shed body fat and improve cardiovascular health. If you live near a beach, bicycling on the boardwalk tends to be a very relaxing exercise and a great workout to share with your significant other!
SWIMMING
It’s a great way to get low impact exercise that can work just about all your muscles… and it’s another reason to be friendly to that co-worker with an in-ground pool. There are also many local recreation centers which have outdoor lap pools, so see what your town and surrounding neighborhoods have to offer!
YOGA
Practicing Yoga has many health benefits including increased flexibility and achieving harmony with the universe. So why not experience those benefits with a little fresh air? If you regularly practice Yoga indoors, ask your instructor if classes are offered outside…chances are he or she will say yes!
TAKE A DOG FOR A RUN/WALK
If you own a dog that doesn’t fit into a purse, taking your four-legged friend for a spin around the neighborhood burns calories and makes your dog happy.
PLAY A SPORT WITH FRIENDS
Whether it’s a pick up game of basketball, a slow-pitch softball game or a highly competitive soccer match in the park, getting outside and playing has been a great way to break a sweat ever since you were old enough to run.
